The culture pulled up in full force at the legendary Howard Theatre as the Café Mocha Radio family celebrated 15 years with the Salute THEM Awards.  Honoring those actively shaping the culture with purpose and legacy.  The changemakers passing the torch and guiding the upcoming changemakers.

🌟 CULTURE. LEGACY. IMPACT.

A defining highlight of the night came as Ryan Coogler received the inaugural HBCU First LOOK “I Aspire” Global Impact Award, presented alongside Howard University Chadwick Boseman College of Fine Arts.  His tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman reflected a full-circle moment rooted in purpose, creativity and Black excellence — Especially considering their cultural impact through Black Panther.

Ryan wore a gold-plated diamond encrusted necklace in honor of his late friend.  He spoke so highly of Chadwick when we caught up with him on the red carpet.

The Salute THEM Awards also served as the kickoff for the 3rd Annual HBCU First LOOK Film Festiva l— Continuing the pipeline for emerging Black creatives.

& beyond the stage, the mission remains real. The event supports the Mocha Cares Foundation, which uplifts women and children impacted by domestic violence while building mentorship opportunities for HBCU students.

*Founder Sheila Eldridge was honored & presented with a painting by Artist Demont Pinder for all her endeavors

This awards show was a cultural checkpoint.

The Salute THEM Awards proved that when platforms like Café Mocha Radio center authentic voices and intentional storytelling, the impact goes far beyond media — It shapes narratives, builds legacy and creates real access.

There’s something powerful about honoring people while they can still feel it. Not posthumously.  Not decades later. NOW!

& that’s what makes this platform different & necessary.
